The foundation director Greg Mitchell said some people in the islands in Fiji were still using camakau (Fijian canoe) to go fishing and also a way to travel to other islands.

He said it was hard to get petroleum and diesel in the islands and Yamaha engines were too expensive.

“The people use boats on wind power to do their work and fishing. The power of the wind should replace the power of the petroleum,” said Mr Mitchell.

He said this would be a benefit for Fiji and also the Pacific.

“This will be a big benefit not only for the Fiji economy but also in the region.”

He said the biggest problem was the usage of petroleum, meaning more fish to be harvested from the sea and less stock of food for the future generation.

“More demands of international need of fish will mean fewer resources for Fiji. When you go fishing and use the petroleum which uses a lot of money, you will have to catch more fish to buy more petroleum.”

“If everybody can do their little part, it will help. Everybody to use green power instead of petroleum will help save the world for our future generation.”
